Grass or corn can be used to make the silage. I may sell some silage to get money back to my pot initially and keep some silage for my animals TMR mix. But contract work is a choice to earn more funds and so are missions, which I generally don't do.

I am prepared to use no fuss pay full price, get on with it with fields. I won't be doing jobs for other farmers in 17, I work for myself, started farms before then sold so the banks grant me meaty loans (I imagine that bit). Good sized cultivator (take out the corn stubs left behind) and plow (maybe join fields but greater use in 17) Liquid fertilizer spreader (sprayer), maybe 2, big as possible Potato and beet seeders but the corn one may do beet-I leave this until later because doing beet and potato costs expensive machinery, renting sometimes possible Good sized harvester and headers, usually the ones that can be towed behind the harvester. Maybe an animal trailer to transport cattle to the slaughterhouse Chickens can be modded later to accept food/water.

I think some consoles will have MODS but I use the PC. Though you can use grass to begin with, sheep are ok with grass, water is sometimes used but may be an add on MOD. Got straw, grass, silage (grass or corn tented turns to silage) and this all forms TMR-Total Mixed Ration which is usually a good feed for pigs and cows but may have changed in 17.

This bank MOD is almost definitely likely to make it to 17 too. I use a banking MOD to get a good sized loan on top. I up the loan to the 200,000 limit, guessing 17 has the same one. I usually start by selling most of the machinery/tractors I don't need that's in the default setup. I would also suggest turning crop withering OFF until you get the hang of the game and the times it can take to do things Start with the tutorials then move onto doing missions/contracting work to increase your bank balance. I would also agree this is excellent advice. This is also great advice, I highly recommend this too. Of course watching videos is always a good way to get a good idea what to do and how. According the GIANTS trailors it also helps reduce the final price for buying a field if you've done contract work on it previously. I just watched Daggerwin doing contracts and it looks like it pays fairly well. Gives you money towards buying your own equipment but also allows you to try out many different equipment that belong to those farmers, before you need to choose your own. You sign up to do a job for them, they provide the equipement, you do the job and get paid. I am also going to do contract work, which is from the fields with blue icons that belong to other farmers.
